Sound familiar?

Over 4 million people have had the same lightbulb moment.

Morning Brew is a free daily newsletter that breaks down what's happening in business, finance, and tech — clearly, quickly, and with enough personality to make it the best email in your inbox.

No yelling. No filler. Just the news, finally making sense.

Now let’s get on with it…

Here’s what I’ve learned after 12+ years doing outreach:

The offer IS the campaign.

Forget about AI.
Forget about “personalization”.
Forget about any of that copy voodoo you hear about from the lead gen gurus.

If there’s one thing to get right in your marketing (whether you’re doing outreach or not) it’s your offer.

Here’s a clear example why…

We just had two similar campaigns go out the same week.

Same industry, similar list size, both to decision makers who fit the profile.

One had messaging that anyone would have thought works.

-Real research on the prospect
-A line about something that just changed in their company
-Clean structure, easy CTA

The other one read like it was typed with two thumbs in an airport terminal.

That was the winner. And it wasn't close.

The difference had nothing to do with writing. The sloppy campaign was offering something a prospect could picture in 2 seconds.

The polished one was offering "a quick chat to explore".

That gap is YOUR opportunity.

Because almost nobody has an offer. They have a description of their service.

I talk to B2B service providers every week. Smart operators. People who are genuinely excellent at the thing they do.

And when I ask what they're leading with in outreach, I get some version of this:

"We help companies improve their compliance workload."

"We do fractional CMO work for scaling B2B brands."

"We help teams get more out of their CRM."

Those are all accurate. Every one of them. They're also completely unusable in a cold message, because the prospect has to do work to understand them.

They are not OFFERS.

Now…the bar is lower than you think, and higher than you think…

Lower, because you're not trying to get them to buy. You're trying to get them to entertain the idea of working with you. That's it. One reply. One moment of "huh, that's actually interesting."

Higher, because to get to that moment, they need to be able to consume your offer instantly. Not decode it. Consume it.

The test I use is simple:

Could the prospect explain your offer to their Mom after reading it once, without going back to reread it?

If yes, you have an offer. If no, you have a description, and you're asking a stranger to do homework.

Why the offer carries the campaign..

Most of what gets taught about outreach leaves this out.

Roughly 90% of your results come from the offer. The remaining slice is split across your targeting, your messaging, your timing, all of it.

Personalization has become table stakes and, honestly, a bit of a magic trick that everyone has learned to spot.

Prospects can smell a merge field.

They know the line about their recent post came from a scraper… the "I loved your take on X" opener has been run into the ground by every tool on the market.

Meanwhile, an offer that solves a real problem in under a minute doesn't need a trick. It works even when the writing is mediocre.

How to build one this week

Start with the transformation, not the service. What is measurably different about your client's business 90 days after they hire you?

Write that in one sentence, in their words, not yours.

Then cut it into a slice. What's the smallest piece of that transformation you could hand someone for free, in under an hour of your time, that still delivers a real “aHaaaaa!!!" moment?

Then make it a thing. Something with a name and a shape, because a named artifact converts better than an offer to "share some ideas."

Then lead with it. Not after the credibility paragraph. Not after the case study. The offer goes near the top, because that's the only part they're actually deciding on.

This is exactly why we built GTM Bud the way we did

Most outreach tools compete on personalization. More data points, more scraped signals, more clever ways to make a cold message look warm.

We have all that too, but we went MUCH further in the other direction.

GTM Bud builds a custom value offer for each prospect. It looks at who they are and what they're likely dealing with, then generates a specific, tangible thing worth handing them, and writes the message around that.

That single shift is what took reply rates from "a few bites here and there" to consistent conversations with the right people for our clients.

So here’s MY OFFER:

Reply with the word “trial” to this email and I will create a free 1 week trial outreach campaign for you based on your service and target audience that will generate a 5-15% positive reply rate.

That way you can see the positive replies for yourself before paying a dime.

You just need to approve and launch.

If your outreach is quiet right now, resist the urge to rewrite your messaging again. Go look at what you're actually asking someone to say yes to.

Nine times out of ten, that's the thing that's broken.

Rooting for you,
Tom
