I get a version of this message almost every week:
"My outreach isn't working. Can you take a look at my copy?"
And sure the copy could usually use some work.
But the real issue is almost always with the offer (or lack thereof).
You can write the cleanest message in the world. If there's no real offer behind it, it will land flat on its back.
Having a service you sell is not the same as making someone an offer.
You can have a great service.
You can describe it well.
You can believe in it completely.
And still never make anyone an actual offer.
Because "Here's what I do, want to hop on a call?" is not an offer.
It’s actually the opposite of an offer, because you're asking for their time, their attention, their trust - none of which have been earned yet.
An offer flips that.
An offer hands them something useful before you ask for anything back.
You can find yours at FounderBud.com here:
What a real offer actually is:
A strong offer does three things:
-It names a specific person.
-It names a specific pain they're feeling right now.
-It points at a specific outcome they want.
When those three click, the prospect doesn't have to think hard.
They read it and go "yeah, that's me."
Simply put - clear, compelling offers make people reply.
Compare these two:
"I help companies with their marketing."
vs.
"I help coaches turn their sales call recordings into a week of email content, without writing a thing themselves."
Same person could be saying both.
One gets ignored. One gets a response.
Same skill. One version just makes it obvious who it's for and what they walk away with.
Then there's the “value offer”…
Here's where people still trip up, even after they tighten the offer.
They lead with the sale.
They finally have a clear offer, so they fire it straight into the inbox and ask for the meeting. Better targeting, same trust problem.
This is where the value offer comes in.
A value offer is a small, genuinely useful slice of what you do.
You give it away first. No pitch attached.
It proves you can help before you ever ask for the call.
Think of it as the on-ramp to the real thing.
Here's what a value offer sounds like in a first message:
Proprietary insight (something only you have):
A commercial real estate broker:
"We track every office lease signed in the metro over 10,000 square feet. I pulled the average price per square foot for your submarket over the last 6 months. Want me to send the numbers?"
A small piece of custom work (built off public info):
A Shopify conversion consultant:
"I'll record a quick 3-minute teardown of your product page and show you the changes most likely to lift add-to-cart on mobile. Should I send it over?"
A useful resource you've already built:
A fractional CFO:
"I built a simple one-page cash flow template that shows founders their runway 6 months out from three inputs. Want me to send it your way?"
Notice what's happening in each one.
No "let's hop on a call.”
No pitch.
Just a useful thing, and a question that's easy to say yes to.
"Want me to send it?" is one of the highest-converting lines you can use, because it costs the prospect nothing to say yes.
And once they say yes, you're no longer a stranger asking for time.
You're the person who has already started helping them.
How to find YOUR offer:
You usually don't think up your way to the right offer. You test your way to it.
Put a few versions in front of your market and watch which one pulls replies. The market tells you, and it tells you fast.
The hard part is just getting started. Coming up with offers worth testing, then getting them in front of the right people quickly enough to learn something.
That's exactly why we built these 2 tools:
If you want help coming up with offers, FounderBud (founderbud.com) sends you fresh offer ideas every week. Whether you're launching something new or sharpening an existing business, you'll get angles and value offers you can actually use, straight to your inbox.
Then when you've got one worth trying, take it into GTMBud (gtmbud.com). Describe your ideal customer in plain English, and it builds you a targeted list plus the outreach messages to test that offer in the market right away, then sends the messages for you via linkedin, email or both.
The goal is to give you ideas based on what our campaigns tell us is working, tested in the market, without months of guessing at your desk.
